Lina Bo Bardi
Instituto Lina Bo e P.M. Bardi, Brasil 1993, 50'

This document tells part of the recent story of Brazil. The point of view is taken from Lina Bo Bardi's own experience of the modern occidental culure. Lina Bo Bardi (Roma 1914 - San Paolo 1992) grown up as an architect at the University of architecture in Rome. She than moved in Milan where she worked with Giò Ponti. In 1946 she got married with Pietro Maria Bardi, and together they travelled a lot in Brazil where at the end they decided to live. There Lina realises design projects, scenografies and she directed the architecture magazine Habitat. One of her best performances is the restoration of the Art Museum of San Paolo (1957-'68). Lina becomes soon a political, social and professional basic reference. She signed with her job the life of a generation of Brazilian architects, artists, directors and designers. Her new ideas about art and culture help us today to understand the aspiration of this so unknown Brazil. This video contains images of Rio de Janeiro, San Paolo, Salvador and Uberlandia. There are also interventions by Pierre Verger, Darcy Ribeiro, Caetano Veloso, José Celso Martinez Correa and Maria Bethania.
