Kas Oosterhuis
transPORTs2001
Nederland 1999, 4'30''

The project that will be created in Rotterdam consists of a building dedicated to new technologies. It appears as a single-cell organism, a pure container that never ceases to transform itself according to the intensity of the flux of communication. Architecture thus becomes an active structure that changes with real time through the data furnished by a game (Real Time Evolution Game) on a website. The visitors will walk through an internal space which is in perpetual transformation and created by designs. The octagonal space is left to the undulations of the areas that, like a type of fabric, never cease to bend and fold in order to abolish every division between the floor and the walls, between the ceiling and the windows. Kas Oosterhuis, born in 1951 in Amersfoort, Holland, graduated in 1979 with a degree in architecture and currently directs the Oosterhuis Associates, an multidisciplinary group which brings together individuals of various specializations. In 1998, Oosterhuis collaborated with Ilona Lenard, a visual artist, to produce a book on their combined work that was published in May of that year.
