![]() Mika Taanila Futuro - a New Stance for Tomorrow Lasse Saarinen/Kinotar Oy, Finlandia 1998, 29' The film is a trip through our recent past futuristically oriented. It is a documentary about the growth and the destruction of the house of production "Future". The history of an utopic space-age that nearly becomes reality. So, the purely mathematic idea of Suuronen, a closed chapter of the Finnish design history, changes in something like a history with international colours and events. The Future house building, designed by Suuronen, is a typical creation in the age of optimism for the space discoveries. It has the shape of an UFO, and it reminds a time when the technical power was seen as the problem-solving of any problem, and plastic was the incarnation of "easy" philosophy. Mika Taanila, who directed the film, made a lot of researches about the history of Futuro. At the end she rebuilt it step by step selling this unknown material afterwards. The Futuro soundtrack - A new Stance for Tomorrow - contains, among the others, some futuristic tracks by Moog Music (from the end of sixties) and electronic pieces produced by experimental group Elektroverde. Mika Taanila, graduated in Helsinki (1988) in cultural anthropology, continued his studies in Lahti making deeper his knowledge in design and video production. Taanila is very active in video production, music and art, and, moreover, he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki at the Department of Space & Time Studies. |
