Architecture and its technologies are in the midst of a deep transformation whose effects are now becoming significant. During the last years the event, which took place in Florence, detected the progressive spread and the consequent acceptance of modes of expression and communication that are at the basis of some contemporary research trends. Besides considering the video as a communication tool, we always insisted, in Florence, on wider processes that shift and redefine issues related to the experimental, productive and public facet of doing architecture. It is an articulated framework including themes that see contemporary design investigating the possibilities offered by digital processes and by the media system. Visionary and concrete acts at the same time.

This year’s program, specially devoted to the youngest designers, aims at evaluating the state of architectural research beginning from the actual applicative possibilities of new technologies, from the real achievement of new languages, from the spread of innovative application methodologies. BEYOND MEDIA/OLTRE I MEDIA aims once again at collecting the liveliest evidences of an architecture that is aware of the current communication technologies and thus at describing an overview of the international output, especially the emerging one, that reveals itself in media form.

The broad view cast upon themes that have traditionally been considered borderline finds a fertile soil in the Florence Festival, a soil upon which research and application paths can be built. Videogames, commercials, music video clips, films and several other fields investigated during the event identify some situations which are unavoidable if one is to comprehend the contemporary project.
