Over the last six years, Florence has been offering an international event devoted to research in architecture. The meetings in Florence, the significance of the building hosting them this year, the wide interest they are able to generate are part of a tradition that sees the city as an important reference point.

It is the occasion for presenting the most innovative researches and for looking beyond the current point of view, for discussing about emerging theories and for verifying design methodologies based on the application of audio-visual tools and digital systems for architecture. The program for the sixth International Festival of Architecture in Video bears the title of BEYOND MEDIA/OLTRE I MEDIA: in this sense it aims at highlighting the most significant aspects of the transformation produced by media on architecture.

Architects, students, authors of architectural communication works have been invited from all over the world, so as to bring the expression of the liveliest experimental activity into the city of Brunelleschi. It is an occasion for presenting architecture through the means offered by contemporaneity and to compare and discuss the application methods of the current communication tools. All this fits inside the investigation of the relapses of the media phenomenon that opened new possibilities and raised complicated issues. We must recognize Marco Brizzi's commitment who, as curator of the event, was capable of concentrating in Florence the attention on issues that are so current, though tied to a deep tradition of technological research; and our colleagues from the Dipartimeto di Tecnologie dell'Architettura e Design "Pierluigi Spadolini" who actively took part in the preparation of the event. In this sense the program extends the research the Dipartimento carried out since its estabilishment. We hope that these meetings will lead to an extensive meditation on the meaning of innovation in architecture and to a wider valorization of contemporary architecture in our country.
